This Glasgow band have only been around a year but are already making waves with their self-released album 'Leave It All Behind'. Very nice indie/alternative stylings - there's nothing new here, but it's done well.

The Mexanines - Katie Callous
Another top quality band by way of West Yorkshire, The Mexanines present the riff-tastic Katie Callous, based around a fictional lady killer. Parts of the song have an early Kings of Leon-esque vibe to them: 'You better see it through/or Katie's gonna come for you'. Have a listen below.

Marsicans - Hands
Poppy-indie from a brilliant unsigned Leeds band. 'He 'ant got a chance probably/and he never will' has become a well serviced phrase around the Leeds music scene. If this isn't lodged in your head for the rest of the day, you're a soulless beast.

Left Step Band - Leave It
Hip-hop/funk quartet by way of London Left Step Band have recently done an EP entitled 'Rebels of the Frontline' (support the band and buy it here), a crossover of sorts which fuses underground hip-hop with ska elements and some really funky beats. The band consists of a DJ, MC and a drum and bass combination. Lead track 'Leave It' is a spectacle of lay down riffs and catchy lines: 'If something's holding me back/Leave it' complimenting the spacious, irriguous drums, which are for me a personal highlight. 'Swaggering beats meet soulful hooks' is entirely right.

The Joker & The Thief - Worm In The Soul
Acoustic/Blues trio from London - found this on the Strummerville Foundation for New Music and it's pretty amazing. Pure energy following a breakdown vocal solo: 'I like blues and I like soul/And psychedelic rock & roll'. Keep an eye out for these.

Psychic Friend - Once A Servant
Simple, catchy track from self-professed 'German pop' band Psychic Friend, from Los Angeles.
The band features Will Schwartz on vocals, formerly of Imperial Teen. The song's bouncy piano and heavy, steady beats provide a perfect backdrop for the almost angelic, romantic vocal content. A very simple song polished to near perfection.
